The story: Young children have always been my favorite subject. They speak with a voice of truth - comfortable with who they are and how they see the world. They seem to carry a capacity for understanding that knows no concepts and weaves many colors, while presenting a mysterious level of knowing. The little Indian child with outlined eyes knew. She watched me as I watched her, content to observe and be observed. The contact was simple and immediate. The feeling pure. The token adult was there throughout the meeting. An anchor to civilization, and intricate part of the child's world, but still only a support to the continuous picture.
