What makes it special: The felt sense of the structure of the vertical sail and how it draws us in.
The story: "The outrigger catamaran was basic in design, but moved well - ideal for the shallow waters surrounding the sandy island. My Hawaiian roots gave me a comfortable reference point, and allowed me to relax into island life. I spent much of my childhood playing on the water, and underwater. Native life on Borakai presented a similar pace. I felt a deep connection to this land, and yet there were no mountains.
For three days the warm winds blew and we set sail. We launched the light craft right off the beach, flying along with the timeless sounds of waves and wind. It was the ultimate way to explore this beautiful island, sailing up and down the coastline with the occasional high-speed beach landings. I found an abundance of color, texture and form, with huge coral heads sparkling with life. Under sail, gliding over the water time stopped."
